The Weave

Your story-world map, and how Oghmere keeps it up to date.

The Weave is the map of your story world — the characters, places and things you write about, and the documents each one appears in. Settings → The Weave controls whether Oghmere keeps that map up to date on its own, and how.

Keeping the map up to date

The map stays off until you turn it on. When you do, Oghmere reads each document you save and links it to the characters and places already in your map. This basic pass is free and always runs first.

You can choose to update on save, when a document moves to another stage, or only when you ask. Updating on a schedule is listed but not selectable yet; it is marked "Coming soon" until the work behind it ships.

The deeper read

  • What it addsthe free pass matches names exactly as you wrote them. The deeper read also catches the ones you wrote differently — a title, a nickname, a shortened name, an epithet — and links them to the character or place you already have.
  • What it costs2 credits per document, and only when there are names the free pass could not place. A document where every name matched exactly costs nothing.
  • What it never doesit only connects writing to entries already in your map. It never creates a character or place on its own, and it never changes anything you have written down about one.
  • When it appliesto documents you change from now on. Turning it on does not re-read your existing work — run a full update from the same settings page if you want that, so a large back catalogue can never be re-read without you asking.
  • If you run out of creditsthe free map keeps building as normal; you simply do not get the paid extra until you top up.

Very large story worlds

A deeper read looks at your map in one pass. If your world is large enough that it cannot all be read at once, the settings page tells you so after the run — it never presents a partial read as a complete one.
