Writing Challenges

Weekly writing prompts that open as a fresh document, so you can just start writing.

A Writing Challenge is a short weekly prompt to keep your writing habit going. Each one gives you a topic, a suggested length, and an estimate of how long it takes. There is a new featured challenge each week, and every past challenge stays in the archive for you to try anytime.

How to use it

Browse — open Challenges in the sidebar to see this week’s featured prompt and the full archive. Filter and sort to find one that fits your mood.
Start one — starting a challenge creates a document for it inside a project, pre-filled with the prompt, and drops you straight into the editor — no setup first.
Finish in your own time — a challenge you have begun but not finished shows up on your home so you can pick it back up. There is no deadline and nothing expires.
Mark complete — when a challenge is done, mark it complete on the Challenges page. That earns its badge and counts toward your streak.

Seasonal collections & badges

Collections — some prompts are grouped into named, calendar-driven sets — Summer Festival, Back to School, Horror October, a NaNoWriMo companion, the Holiday Collection, New Year Flash Fiction, and the Spring Marathon.
Badges — you earn a private badge for every challenge you complete, and a special one for finishing a whole seasonal collection. Your first, fifth, and fifteenth completed challenges also unlock achievements on your dashboard.
Just for you — badges and streaks are private — there is no public gallery or comparison with other writers.

Your Challenge voice

Grows for free — your Challenges project carries one special Challenge voice — a portrait of how you write that is inferred for you, never hand-edited. Every time you complete a challenge it refines itself automatically, for free, and its growth shows on the Challenges page.
Go deeper (optional) — when you want a richer, higher-fidelity portrait, run a deep analysis: it re-reads all of your completed challenges at once. This one spends credits — the amount is shown on the button before you run it — and it complements the free refine rather than replacing it.

What it costs

Browsing, starting, and completing challenges is free, and badges never cost or grant credits. Your Challenge voice also refines itself for free after each completion. The only paid extras are the coaching you choose to run inside a document, and the optional deep analysis of your Challenge voice — both disclose their cost before you run them.
